Have a story that you think will be perfect for Nat 1?
Send it to us at any time—we accept submissions all year!

First and foremost, Nat 1 Publishing is an annual anthology publishing house dealing in science-fiction and fantasy infused with a good dash of comedy, parody, and satire—your story should fall into at least one of these fields. We’re hoping to eventually grow to release two to four anthologies a year, but that’s all dependent on the number of authors willing to trust us with their work. Now for the (not-exclusive) list of sub-genres that we are particularly interested in:

  • Biopunk
  • Dark Fantasy
  • Dungeon Core
  • Game-related Fantasy
  • Harem / Reverse Harem
  • Heroic Fantasy
  • Historical Fantasy
  • Horror
  • LitRPG
  • Magical Realism
  • Poetry
  • Portal Fantasy / Isekai
  • Post-Apocalyptic
  • Romance
  • Romantic Comedy
  • Science Fantasy
  • Space Opera
  • Steampunk
  • Superheroes
  • Sword and Sorcery
  • Thriller
  • Urban Fantasy

For romance submissions, we’ll consider any level of heat, from sweet to erotic.

Short Stories and Poetry

Right now, we primarily take short stories, 50 to 3,000 words (longer will be considered, but the extra wordcount needs to be worth it) and poetry (4 to 40 lines, including stanza breaks) to be included in our anthologies. These anthologies are typically themed so be sure to check out which collection you’re submitting to.  Nat 1, LLC is a fledgling indie-publishing company. While many startup companies that cater more to anthologies only provide a digital copy to their contributors, we know that even small payments are welcome. Because of that, select anthologies will pay contributors as well.

Please note that we are not currently accepting collections of short stories or poetry. Submit them for consideration to be included in a multi-author anthology. Stories or poems that were included in self-published collections are okay to submit (please tell us though), however if they were included in a traditionally published book, journal, or magazine we must respectfully decline.

Despite being primarily anthology oriented, we’re dipping our toes into publishing novelettes and novellas that range from 8,000 to 30,000 words. These works can be standalone or series. For these longer works, authors will receive 50% of the royalties made as determined by the distributor (until we gain more momentum, we offer exclusively through Amazon) to be paid out quarterly via PayPal.

Submission Guidelines

  • No sexism, racism, ageism, ableism, or any other isms; works can have these themes, but not to glorify them;
  • It must be your own original work;
  • It must be previously unpublished (personal blogs, websites, Patreon, Reddit, etc. are okay);
  • It does not infringe on existing copyright material (this includes fan fiction);
  • Simultaneous submissions are okay, if accepted elsewhere let us know ASAP;
  • Please don’t resubmit a rejected piece. If you’ve made significant revisions, contact us first.
  • We read submissions blind. Do not put any identifying information on your submission, including the file name.

Response time

We try to respond to short story submissions within three week and novella submissions within two months, but it’s usually much quicker. Please do not query about the status of your submission for 120 days—if you haven’t received a response, we’re probably swamped!

For queries or questions regarding submissions, payments, or royalties, feel free to contact us!
